Project Overview
At the center of this project is information about the Karenni, an ethnic nationality that considers Karenni State, a small state between Burma and northern Thailand, its homeland. The total Karenni population numbers approximately 320,000.  The Karenni include four main tribes:  the Kayah, Kayan, Kayaw, and Paku.  While some Karenni continue to live in their traditional homeland,  others are spread across different parts of Asia, Europe, Australia, and North America.

The Karenni Information Project aims to document the history, experience, and culture of the Karenni people and to develop and distribute materials that can be used in educational projects. This site has been created with three groups in mind: members of the Karenni community, university students, and members of the general public who are interested in learning more about the Karenni people.  Karenni and Spanish versions of this website are planned for the future.
